Take G300 CDI Professional equipped with 3.0T and V6 diesel engines as an example. All configurations are pragmatic and tend to mechanical operation mode. There are no cool functions such as electronic differential locking, electronic torque distribution, steep slope relief, etc., but the most reliable low-speed afterdrive gear is used to match the middle and rear differential locking. The solid and orthodox 4WD architecture allows this car to cope with all the difficulties we can imagine.
Because of its excellent off-road performance, the G-class vehicle under the W461 has been named “Wolf” in the German Federal Defense Force, and nearly 50 models have been explosively derived. Its reliability and strong scalability are not only loved by the German special forces, but also popular in other countries. For example, the P4 light off-road vehicle of the French army is also built on this chassis.
I have to admit that W461 is an uncompromising tough guy in his heart. Maybe in his eyes, W463 in the same period is more like a deserter in the battlefield, because in his opinion, all the efforts that are not done to the utmost can not deserve the title of “G”.
In the face of W461’s contempt, W463 stood aside silently, laughing but not speaking. A simple sentence: “It’s just that the attitude is different. Extreme efforts can also have many ways of expression”.

Benz G-Wagen W461
1991-2001
In 1991, the Mercedes G-Wagon, code-named W461, was launched. The W461 is not so much a replacement of the W460 as a continuation of the W460. The W461 is based on the improvement of the W460. It is mainly used for military vehicles and special purpose vehicles for government and other institutions.
The W461 cancels the W460 soft-top convertible version, and only provides 230 GE four-cylinder gasoline power and 290 GD five-cylinder diesel power at the initial stage. Later, Benz added a five-cylinder diesel power with turbocharged 290GE TD option, while 230 GE gasoline power gradually faded out of the market.
At the beginning of the launch of the W461, both the appearance and the chassis basically continued the design of the W460. In terms of configuration, power steering and four-wheel disc brake were included in the standard configuration.
By 1997, in order to meet the progress of the times, the W461 carried out a comprehensive renovation of the interior. A lot of wood grain decoration was integrated into the interior to improve the interior texture, and the interior functionality was also improved accordingly.
Since 2001, the W461 has rarely been sold in the civil vehicle market, and it is mainly used for military or special vehicles such as forestry, scientific research and research. Because of its excellent performance, it has been included in the military assembly of many countries including Norway, Switzerland, Austria and so on. Even the P4 light off-road vehicle of the French army is also based on the Mercedes W461 chassis.
